Scientific Advisory Board
Kris Moe, MD is an associate professor and the chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Washington. He is board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. In addition to residencies at the Universities of Washington and Michigan, he trained in skull base surgery at the Universities of Michigan, Bern, and Zurich. Prior to the University of Washington, he held faculty positions at the University of Zurich and the University of California, San Diego. He holds a B.A. in Biology from Harvard University.
Dr. Moe's primary research interest involves minimally traumatic surgery of the skull base. He has developed a group of procedures termed transorbital neuroendoscopic surgery for accessing the anterior skull base and brain that avoid the need for traditional craniotomies, and create no visible scars. He practices at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center, and treats patients with head and neck / skull base malignancies, as well craniofacial trauma and aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Carl Snyderman, MD is a professor of otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in neurosurgery. He is co-director of the Center for Skull Base Surgery at UPMC and is recognized internationally as a pioneer and leader in the development of the endoscopic endonasal approach, a minimally invasive surgical approach to the skull base. Dr. Snyderman has a Master’s in Business Administration and is Vice Chair for Quality and Safety in the Department of Otolaryngology. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, and completed his residency and fellowship training in skull base surgery at UPMC. He is a past recipient of a Clinical Oncology Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society and a FIRST Award from the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Snyderman is a recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, and a Presidential Citation from the American Head and Neck Society. He is a member of the North American Skull Base Society. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and presents frequently at local, national, and international scientific lectures and meetings.
